If you are not an Australian, or an NZ Passport holder, you must have a valid visa before you arrive in Australia. If you do not hold the right visa when you arrive in Australia you may be prevented from entering the country.
There are over 50 different Australian visas available. The type of visa you should apply for will depend on your personal requirements and reasons for travelling to Australia.

Skilled Visas
If you have qualifications and skills that are in demand in Australia you may be able to apply for a skilled visa. This is a points tested visa, which means that you must be able to score enough points (no less than 65, but the higher your score, the better) before you can apply for this visa.
Points are awarded for factors including:
Age - points are awarded to individuals who are between 18 to 44 years of age
Language - points are awarded to individuals who have superior English language skills
Qualifications - points are awarded to individuals with Australian equivalent level qualifications
Work Experience - points are awarded according to the length of your skilled work experience
Partner Points - points are awarded if you have a partner who is also skilled
Sponsored Points - points are awarded if you are able to obtain sponsorship from an Australian State
